Gongju International Art Festival in South Korea

Dieter Nusbaum participated in the Gongju International Art Festival in South Korea in both 2022 and 2023, significantly expanding his international artistic presence. The festival takes place annually in the historic city of Gongju, located in Chungcheongnam-do Province, and is hosted by the Limlip Art Museum, an art institution beautifully embedded in its natural surroundings, featuring spacious exhibition halls and an extensive outdoor sculpture park. Recognized as an important platform for contemporary art, the Gongju International Art Festival brings together artists from around the world to foster cultural exchange and explore the relationship between art, nature, and space. Nusbaum’s participation in the 2022 and 2023 editions highlights his international orientation and situates his work within a global context where creative diversity, intercultural dialogue, and an open approach to contemporary artistic expression play a central role.

In Spirit and Matter – Flora X, layers of gesture, texture, and color intertwine to form a dreamlike landscape that oscillates between abstraction and figuration. The artist fuses drawing, painting, and silkscreen printing to explore the fragile balance between nature’s vitality and the traces of human perception.

The translucent layers evoke both memory and transformation — as if the landscape itself were breathing, shifting between visibility and disappearance. Soft hues of blue and green contrast with ghostly whites, creating a sense of depth that invites contemplation of the unseen energies within natural forms.

Yunseul Museum of Art - Gimhae International Biennale - Sourth Korea

In 2023, Dieter Nusbaum was invited to participate in the Gimhae International Biennale in South Korea, a contemporary art event that brings together international artists for an exchange of ideas, culture, and artistic perspectives.

His contribution to the Biennale reflected his ongoing exploration of form, structure, and spatial dialogue. Presented at the Yunseul Museum of Art in Gimhae, his work engaged with the Biennale’s aim to foster cross-cultural artistic conversations and to highlight the diversity of global contemporary practices.

Opening of the Overhead Kunstsalon Solingen – A Cultural Highlight

The festive opening of the Kunstsalon Solingen became an exceptional cultural event that united art, music, and gastronomy at the highest level. In an elegant atmosphere, guests experienced a vernissage filled with inspiration, emotion, and lively exchange.

Moving operatic singing, accompanied by a virtuoso piano concert, lent the evening a special depth and musical elegance. Between the performances, visitors had the opportunity to discover selected works of contemporary art and engage in personal conversations with the artists.

A menu of exquisite dishes and fine wines provided culinary delight and completed the overall experience. Among the distinguished guests were representatives from the fields of culture, business, and society, who together celebrated the beginning of a new and vibrant art tradition in Solingen.

Artparty Trier – Galerie Kaschenbach presents Dieter Nusbaum

In cooperation with Wochenspiegel, Galerie Kaschenbach hosted a special Artparty Trier event featuring a captivating solo show by Dieter Nusbaum.

Affordable Art Fair Singapore

In 2018, Dieter Nusbaum took part in the Affordable Art Fair Singapore, one of Asia’s most vibrant and accessible contemporary art events. Held annually at the iconic F1 Pit Building in the heart of Singapore, the fair brings together a diverse range of international galleries and thousands of artworks, with a clear mission to make contemporary art approachable for both seasoned collectors and newcomers. The lively atmosphere, the curated selection of emerging and established artists, and the fair’s strong international reach make it a significant platform within the Asian art scene. Nusbaum’s participation in the 2018 edition placed his work in an energetic global environment defined by artistic diversity, cultural exchange and an engaged audience. His presence at the fair further strengthened his international profile and connected his practice with one of the most dynamic art markets in the region.

Art in Architecture – “Transparency”, Center for Prenatal Medicine, Cologne
At the Center for Prenatal Medicine in Cologne, Dieter Nusbaum created an exceptional ceiling installation that fuses art, space, and light into a single atmospheric composition.

The 18-meter-long, backlit artwork spans the entire axis of the room, continuously transforming through gently shifting LED light sequences. The installation bathes the clinic in a soft, warm glow that conveys depth and a sense of security — a calm, almost floating atmosphere emerges.

Art in Architecture – “The Wave” for Knossos, Gießen
With his installation “The Wave,” artist Dieter Nusbaum has given the new building of the renowned fish restaurant Knossos in Gießen a distinctive artistic signature.

The approximately 60-meter-long sculpture, composed of more than 12,000 individual elements, crowns the modern structure with a form that is both dynamic and harmonious. Interpreting the restaurant’s central theme — the sea, its strength, and its elegance — the work weaves together architecture, light, and emotion into a fluid and poetic whole. Nachtbrötchen – Pop-up Gallery in the Airport Parking Garage, Cologne

An extraordinary art event in an unexpected setting: Together with the Overhead Gallery and the Part2Gallery, Dieter Nusbaum transformed a parking garage at Cologne Airport into a temporary art gallery. Under the title “Nachtbrötchen,” a unique format emerged — a fusion of art, club culture, and urban intervention.

Conceived as a drive-in exhibition during the pandemic, visitors were able to experience the artworks safely from their cars — an innovative concept that became a true crowd magnet. With more than 3,000 guests on site and worldwide media coverage from China, Australia, the USA, India, Japan, and beyond, the project became a symbol of creative resilience and the enduring dialogue between art and the public.

Solo Exhibition “Memoarium” – Cultural Center Strassen, Luxembourg
In his exhibition “Memoarium” at the Cultural Center Strassen, Dieter Nusbaum explores themes of memory, transience, and identity. His works move between painting, collage, and object art, creating a delicate balance between personal narrative and collective experience.

For the new Community Center in Badem, a four-part illuminated glass installation was created as part of the Kunst am Bau program.
Spanning twelve meters in width, the work visualizes key aspects of village life — history, architecture, nature, and community — translated into vibrant layers of color and light. Each panel unfolds its own theme, merging photographic structures with abstract composition. The LED backlighting brings the images to life, shifting in tone and depth with the surrounding light.

Altarpiece and Exhibition – Feldbach Monastery, Austria
For the monastery church in Feldbach, Austria, Dieter Nusbaum created an extraordinary altarpiece that unites the central themes of Christianity – Crucifixion, Pietà, and Resurrection – into one multilayered and symbolically charged composition.

In a powerful, collage-like arrangement, classical imagery merges with a contemporary visual language. Light, color, and form become carriers of spiritual energy, while the symmetrical structure creates a sense of balance between suffering, hope, and transcendence.

The work opens the sacred space to new perspectives – a modern emblem of transformation and renewal that expands the spiritual dimension of the site in a deeply moving way.

Public Art – Community Center Idenheim (Eifel District)

This large-scale, twenty-panel glass installation was created for the Community Center in Idenheim as part of the Kunst am Bau program.
Extending across seven meters, the work captures the character of the village — its architecture, landscape, and rhythm of daily life — translated into layers of color, drawing, and light.

The LED backlighting transforms the imagery into a glowing panorama that changes with the viewer’s movement and the surrounding atmosphere.

Art in Architecture – “The Good Tip”, Customer Hall of the Sparkasse Bitburg
The large-scale wall installation “The Good Tip” by Dieter Nusbaum defines the customer hall of the Kreissparkasse Bitburg-Prüm in Bitburg. In a collage-like composition of architectural fragments, perspectives, and layers of color, the work reflects the Sparkasse’s self-image as an open and community-oriented institution.

Nusbaum interweaves interior and exterior spaces, façades, and surrounding traffic axes into a multi-layered visual structure that conveys both movement and transparency.
